I have been told that the book was highly successful, selling out the first printing in less than two months. Both Dover, and I, were obviously pleased with this result..

Hard on the heels of that book was my "Woodstock Paper Dolls, 40th Anniversary Flashback Edition", which included such memorables as Joan Baez, Janis Joplin, Grace Slick, Jerry Garcia, Jimi Hendrix, Roger Daltrey, Carlos Santana, and Sly Stone. It hardly seems like 40 years ago!

Most recently released was my "Easy-to-Make Nativity Scene", a stand up Christmas Crèche with the holy family, shepherds, the wise men and attending angels, printed front and back and perforated to punch out and assemble for use as a mantle decoration, table centerpiece, or for under the tree. I had done this set almost twenty years ago, for my own enjoyment, and after all this time Dover asked me to see it and decided to publish it. Personally, I love it, especially the wise men. I hope that you will like it too.

There is a brand new one that is out, my Michael Jackson Paper Dolls, Commemorative Edition, 1958-2009. I just today received my copies of it and was delighted with the result. There are seven dolls, depicting Michael from his childhood until the end with costumes that go from the Jackson Five until his last Press interview. Dover has used an exciting new process, printing "glitter" on the costumes (that cannot flake off) where appropriate. Another paper doll "first"!

While I am at it, I want to mention what a good time Kathy and I had at the Las Vegas International Paper Doll Convention. Deanna Williams was the organizer-coordinator, and even though not feeling well, did a magnificent job. It was great fun to see old acquaintances and meet new paper doll enthusiasts as well. Also we were delighted to welcome several collectors from overseas. We all had a wonderful time, although everyone who had known him, missed Gene Maiden, who has done so much over the past half century to keep the art of paper dolls alive. On the last evening there was a memorial salute to him which was attended by his two beloved nephews, Earl Anderson and Brad Brinkley who presented a slide show with many wonderful photos of Gene's life. Truly a touching salute.

Since I wrote this, a new Dover book of mine has arrived. It is "Sherlock Holmes Paper Dolls". This one all started as a souvenir set that I did for one of Gene Maiden's Los Angeles paper doll parties. Dover saw the set and asked me if I could expand it to fit the sixteen page format& which I was delighted to do. This new set includes not only the original paper dolls of Sherlock, Watson, Lestrade, Irene Adler, and Professor Moriarty, but an additional one of Mrs. Hudson, their landlady. I also added an old device of new bodies for Sherlock and Watson, both headless with dotted lines at the neckline for inserting "extra" heads and three pages of Sherlock and Watson portrait heads of most of the famous American and English actors who have played them, since the first stage production in 1889 starring William Gillette through the most recent movies starring Robert Downey, Jr. and Jude Law (as well as the soon to be released Holmes comedy spoof featuring Sacha Baron Cohen and Will Ferrell.) Hopefully it will become a "must" collectable for Sherlock Holmes fans, as well as paper doll fanciers. (An interesting bit of trivia, not included in the book, is that the head of the first Dr. Watson doll is a portrait of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, who created Sherlock and his "biographer" in the first place.) Check it Out!

Tom.
